SAN FRANCISCO NEUROLOGICAL SOCIETY “Management of Thoracolumbar Fractures/Trauma” “Management of Thoracolumbar Fractures” will discuss multiple aspects of TL fxs. I plan to describe the causes and subsequent diagnosis of TL fxs. I will go over the physical examination and radiographic studies that are required for diagnosis. The rationale of nonoperative and operative treatment will then be discussed including surgical approaches. Eldan Eichbaum, MD attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Eichbaum completed his residency at UCSF in neurological surgery and general surgery. He then completed a fellowship in complex and reconstructive spinal neurosurgery at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. Dr. Eichbaum was most recently on the Board of Directors for the California Association of Neurological Surgeons until January 2007. Who Should Attend? Neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, residents and other physicians interested in research and clinical advances in the neurosciences.
This is an activity offered by a CMA-accredited provider. Physicians attending this course may report up to 1 hour of Category 1 credit toward the California Medical Association Certificate in Continuing Medical Education and the American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this lecture participants should be able to: 1. The ability to diagnose thoracolumbar compression and burst fractures. 2. Differentiate between stable and unstable thoracolumbar fractures. 3. The rationale of nonoperative and operative management of thoracolumbar fractures.
